When we strip and replace a pitched roof, we install a new roofing underlay rather than leaving an ageing membrane beneath a new roof covering. We also inspect the battens and roof structure, replacing materials as required to ensure the new tiles or slates are properly supported and fixed. Replacing the battens and timber structure is less common and often not necessary.
