Roof repairs
Roof repairs are good for the soul and for the roof.
Chimney and lead flashing repairs
Chimneys are one of the most common sources of roof leaks.
Metal flashing around the base of the chimney can lift or split over time, allowing rain in. Mortar between the brickwork can also crack and loosen, letting water into the chimney stack – and giving birds, wasps and other creatures a way in.
Our experienced roofers can help with all aspects of chimney repair & maintenance, from stopping leaks, to structural maintenance and complete chimney removals.

Reviews of Cambridge Roofing and Plastics

Angus Cameron
“Jason was excellent throughout the whole process from initial inspection of the facia and soffit that needed replacing. When the job was completed he came back and inspected everything to ensure everything completed correctly. Great communication throughout the job and I would highly recommend this company.”

Paul Srahan
"Although I only needed a small(ish) guttering repair job doing Jason was more than happy to help. He was super responsive and kept me fully updated about when he could do the job. He arrived exactly when he said he would, and as I was at work, he sent me photos of the problem and the work they were doing to fix it. I am very happy to recommend Cambridge Roofing and Plastics/Jason."

Ross Jones
"Jason is friendly and efficient. He responded very quickly to what was only a small job, fitted it into his busy schedule and had it all sorted in a matter of days. I liked that he was very mindful of our neighbours and that he noted other things on the roof that we should keep an eye on without pressing for a bigger job."

Frequently Asked Questions
Why is my chimney leaking?
There are several reasons a chimney can leak, including damaged lead flashing, deteriorated pointing or flaunching, problems with the chimney pot or surrounding roof covering.
Water can also travel before it becomes visible inside your home, so the source isn’t always obvious from where the damp appears.
We can inspect the chimney and surrounding roof to identify where the water is getting in and recommend the most appropriate repair.
Why should I hire a professional to repair my chimney?
Chimneys can be difficult to access and repair safely. When you have your chimney repaired professionally you can feel reassured that the repair is carried out safely and effectively, and is least likely to need further attention later. Our roofers are fully insured and carry public liability insurance so you can be confident you’re in safe hands.
What is chimney flaunching?
Flaunching is the sloping mortar around the chimney pots at the top of the stack. It holds the pots securely in place and helps shed rainwater away from the top of the chimney.
Because it is highly exposed to the weather, older flaunching can eventually crack or crumble and may need replacing.
What is chimney flashing?
Chimney flashing is the leadwork that seals the join between the chimney stack and the roof. Over time, leadwork can become damaged, split or pull away from the masonry, and this is a common source of roof and chimney leaks.
How do I know if my chimney needs repair?
It’s a good question as often repairs aren’t noticeable from the ground! If you’ve never had your chimney inspected or any roofing work done, it may be difficult to tell unless you’ve suffered a leak or it is noticeably damaged.
If you’re unsure it may be worthwhile arranging a free, no obligation, roof inspection to keep on top of any problems and get a professional assessment of any work needed.
What is chimney repointing?
Chimney repointing involves removing deteriorated mortar from between the bricks and replacing it with fresh mortar. This helps keep the chimney structurally sound and prevents water seeping in through damaged or missing mortar joints.
Can I have my chimney removed if its no longer needed?
Yes, chimney stack removal can be a sensible and option that removes the need for future maintenance or repairs. This is especially the case if you’re committed to a more environmentally friendly way of heating your home than an open fire or wood burner. In this case we’ll remove the chimney brick by brick and make good the opening with a permanent roof covering that matches the rest of your roof.
We can talk you through your options and note any potential issues, such as shared party walls and building regulations.
Why do chimneys fail?
While your chimney is not likely to simply fall over or collapse (although it is possible!) weaknesses in mortar joints, leadwork and masonry can lead to leaks and provide an opening for pests. This can eventually affect the structure of the chimney if not repaired.
